Oleksandr Dovzhenko Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University (henceforth the university) is situated in the ancient, charming and cosy town of Hlukhiv in the northwest of Ukraine. The town boasts numerous green zones, historical buildings, churches, monuments, and plenty of students. A few years ago, Hlukhiv was named as the town with the cleanest air in Ukraine. The university was founded on 25 October 1874 and is one of the oldest Pedagogical Higher Education Institutions in Ukraine. It's majestic old red and white buildings stand out while the modern building is painted in the colours of the national flag. The university was named after the screenwriter, producer and director Oleksandr Dovzhenko who studied there and is often cited as one of the most important early Soviet filmmakers. Students are able to attain academic degrees of Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. Nowadays, there are more than 4,000 students at the university and they have the opportunity to become professionals in areas such as language and literature, natural science, pedagogics, technological and pre-school education. Students participate in worldwide mobility programs such as Work and Travel (USA), Au Pair (Germany), AISEC (China), Study Abroad (Poland). Additionally, both students and teachers are beginning to take advantage of the Erasmus+ Program in Germany. The programs give the opportunity to visit different countries all over the world and experience working and studying abroad. There are also many extracurricular activities at the university for students to take part in including social, sports, and art clubs. Student art clubs includes embroidery, woodwork and paintings. The university is proud of its graduates and especially of its sportsmen. Mykola Koltakov is a Master of Sport in powerlifting and Serhiy Sednev was a captain of the men's national biathlon team.
